DIY Mime Costume

I’ve been so busy I haven’t really had a chance to think about Halloween costumes so when I was invited to a Halloween / costume bar crawl, I had to come up with something quick.  Going from store to store looking for costumes can be a little stressful especially if you have limited time before an event and don’t want to spend a ton of money so I opted to go with a DIY costume using things I already owned.

I was thinking about wearing a striped shirt, red neck scarf, and a beret and just being a Parisian girl but when I put the outfit on, I looked more like a mime so I just went with it.  Plus, I got to wear red lipstick which I don’t often get a chance to wear so BONUS!

The Makeup

Another reason that I liked the Mime costume was that I already had all the makeup ingredients to complete the look, eyeliner and red lipstick(or any color you want).

For the face art, you can definitely get creative and draw various things on your face such as diamond shapes over your eyes, heart shapes or circles on your cheeks, etc.  I had limited time so I didn’t want to run the risk of messing up and having to start over, so I went with a simple tear drop for my face art.

For the lips, I opted for a tiny cartoon-like lip.

The Outfit

Mime Costume, the Outfit

I’m a sucker for monochrome and bold color combos so the black, white, and red color scheme certainly fit the bill.  I wore black and white striped sweater with some shoulder embellishments and a pair of black knee-slit skinny jeans.

The Accessories

When I think of mimes, I think of funky non-traditional hats so I opted for a black velvet top hat which was recycled from a few Halloweens costumes ago.  A red neckscarf is another iconic mime accessory.  You can also add some black suspenders to really take your mime costume to the next level.  Oh and of course, a pair of white gloves!
